USS AARON WARD (DM34)
There was never a vessel so sturdy and staunch
As this sea-going man-of-war.
Never a ship did Bethlehem launch
Like this D M Thirty-Four.
There was never a crew of finer mettle
Than the crew of the Aaron Ward,
And every one with a grievence to settle
But, not with the men aboard.
We're heading west, and full steam ahead
Over thousands of miles of the blue.
We're loaded with vengence, powder and lead
For we've got a job to do.
We're not coming back for a while, we guess
Not till this war is won,
It'll be years we have to confess,
Before the job we do is done.
But we're men of steel from a country that's free
And we're bound to keep it that way,
And no yellow b-----ds from over the sea
Can take that freedom away.
So we'll fight to the finish whatever the odds
No matter how late the start.
We'll bury the Nips and their heathen gods
For we've a stout American heart.
So keep us sailing O worth ship
Till we reach our U. S. shore,
And the war is over, we finished our trip
And will have to go sailing no more.
